K-Pop stars did very well at this year’s MTV’s Video Music Awards. South Korean artists won big at the MTV Video Music Awards.
BTS won the title Group of the Year.

BTS took home their 4th consecutive Group of the Year award. Beating out other prominent nominees such as K-Pop’s biggest girl group BLACKPINK, and rock stars M neskin and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Unfortunately, BTS’s Army fan group, were unable to see the live-in action as the band did not attend this year’s ceremony in person after the group announced they’d be taking a break back in June.

BLACKPINK fans, though, were thrilled, as the group won in the brand new Best Metaverse Performance category for their virtual concert in the mobile game Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds.
And there was more from BLACKPINK as they took to the stage to perform their new song “Pink Venom”. Released just 11 days ago, the song is currently Number 1 on YouTube’s Global Top Songs chart.

Member Lisa also picked up the “Best K-Pop” award for her debut solo single “LALISA.” There was tough competition from other K-Pop artists like BTS, TWICE and SEVENTEEN. But, for her many fans it wasn’t a big surprise.

“Her followers on Instagram are 2x. She has two times more followers on Instagram than certain individual members of Bts.
If you just translate that into their ability to vote online. It’s not a surprise.”

SEVENTEEN, despite falling short in the best K-Pop category… did win their first award at this ceremony.
The boyband (SEVENTEEN) surprised their fans by winning the award for the title “Push Performance of the Year”. They won this title with the help of the song “Rock With You.”
SEVENTEEN was awarded Push Performance of the Year because they gave the best performance in last year’s MTV PUSH campaign.
“I think SEVENTEEN might be the biggest K-Pop boy band in the world that we don’t know about or talk about enough.
Last year they had two albums among the top ten best-selling albums in the world CDs. And just this year alone they’ve already had two albums debut in the billboard 200 in the top ten.”

Artists who won in other categories include the Red Hot Chili Peppers for Best Rock, Nicki Minaj for Best Hip-Hop, and Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well” for Video of the Year.

Lisa at number 2 raked in over 3.8 million mentions on social media and Blackpink garnered a whopping 7 million mentions.

Blackpink was the first K-pop female artist to perform at one of the main U.S. music awards. Also, Blackpink won in a new category, Best Metaverse Performance. Also, Lisa won Best Kpop for her solo album.
Black had a big year in particular with member Lisa winning the Best Kpop category as a solo artist over kpop sensation BTS Lisa winning the Best Kpop category actually shouldn’t really come as a surprise.
We need to remind ourselves the most popular kpop idol right now on social media, on Instagram, is Lisa. She was one of the most successful solo artists in the world last year.
