Recently, a shocking thing happened to CUBE Entertainment’s youngest girl group LIGHTSUM. Without any explanation to the fans, CUBE suddenly announced that 2 of the members will be leaving LIGHTSUM.

The sudden notice from CUBE really didn’t say much. CUBE stated, “This is CUBE Entertainment. First of all, we sincerely apologize for this sudden news for those fans who always send love and support to LIGHTSUM. After a careful discussion, we have decided to reorganize LIGHTSUM as a 6-member group (Sangah, Chowon, Nayoung, Hina, Juhyeon, Yujeong) for their future promotions, and we will provide our unlimited support and best efforts for LIGHTSUM to continue on with their music. Also, please send support for Huiyeon and Jian who are no longer able to join. Thank you.”
As for how the departure of the 2 members was decided, and what happened to those 2 members’ contracts, there wasn’t any explanation at all.
Actually, the fans already saw this coming. Since late September of this year, Huiyeon and Jian haven’t been a part of any activities without any notice about halting activities.
Not only that, LIGHTSUM’s choreo for their performance at KDF Concert was changed to a 6-member version, and LIGHTSUM got on stage with their song re-recorded with only 6 members.
There was no news about Huiyeon or Jian on fans’ online communities either. And these 2 members were missing in the poster for another event.
Fans couldn’t understand this situation and expressed anger towards CUBE, but all they got in return was this announcement about the members’ departure without any explanation.
Usually, when certain members leave a group due to personal matters as opposed to an accident or a controversy, the members who are leaving and the remaining members provide explanations and say farewell through hand-written letters or on fans’ online community.
But without even posting the members’ last farewell messages, CUBE simply announced that LIGHTSUM will become a 6-member group, which made the fans angry, especially because those 2 members who have now left the group were massively loved maknae-liners.

Huiyeon and Jian, the 2 members who seem to have been kicked out of LIGHTSUM, used to be maknae-liners who were loved and adored by fans and the members. They were the last ones that joined LIGHTSUM but showed great skills and potential.
Huiyeon
First, Huiyeon was born in 2005. She is 18 now (in Korean age). She was a talented kid who won a gold medal twice in Korea’s National Winter Sports Festival when she was in elementary school.
However, to Huiyeon who wanted to learn a bunch of different things, her vocal school teacher suggested for audition.
Auditioning made Huiyeon feel more competitive, and as she watched performances of BTS, Troye Sivan, The Chainsmokers, Melon Music Awards, and many more, she began to prepare her auditions wholeheartedly.
Watching these performances made her genuinely want to become a singer and she eventually joined LIGHTSUM’s debut group.
Jian
LIGHTSUM’s maknae Jian was born in 2006, and she started pursuing her dream at the age of 12 as a trainee. As a former JYP trainee, she is a maknae with a strong foundation of skills.
Because of her energetic personality, her friends apparently think she is weird. But this weirdness was Jian’s charm.
Her charming characteristic and stable skills made CUBE cast her via social media. So CUBE made Huiyeon and Jian, who were both so charming, join LIGHTSUM as the last pieces only about 4 months before their debut.
Not only that, Jian was originally preparing to specialize in vocals, but apparently, CUBE suddenly made her rap because of her captivating voice.
In the debut introduction video, she is so good for someone who has practiced only for 5 months.
Meanwhile, Huiyeon’s dance moves were outstanding, even though she was a maknae-liner
maybe because of her experience in ballet and figure-skating. But without giving any explanation, CUBE announced the departure of these talented members.
In an interview, Huiyeon once said that just as she experienced being comforted by music and getting energy from it, she hopes she can give comfort and energy to other people through her music. And she also said that just as she got joy from music and stage performances, she wants to be a singer that brings joy to people through fun stage performances.
Seeing how there is no mention at all in the current announcement, many people are speculating that Huiyeon & Jian’s exclusive contracts with CUBE are still valid even though they’ve been released from LIGHTSUM.
Meanwhile, Huiyeon & Jian’s Instagram accounts have been launched, so some people are saying that they’ve probably left CUBE.
On Instagram, Jian said thanks to her fans and expressed her determination to continue to chase after her dream.
